He bases everything on the perspective of the child, so they understand and enjoy their experience.Not only are the exams fun, but they are in-depth and precise. We check the necessary visual skills needed for your child’s development. These skills include:
- Visual acuity
- Eye focusing
- Eye tracking
- Eye teaming
- Hand-eye coordination

When Should My Child Get an Eye Exam?
Infants: Birth to 24 Months
Even if there are no signs of vision problems, your child’s first exam should be around 6 months of age.
During the first few months of life, your child’s eyes begin to work together as a team and focus on objects. The brain learns how to process visual information so your child can interact with the world around them.
These visual skills are important when it comes to motor development for activities such as crawling, walking, and hand-eye coordination.
Preschool: Ages 2–5
Your child should come in for at least one comprehensive eye exam between ages 2–5.
Your child begins to fine-tune their visual abilities at this age while developing new skills that prepare them to read and play. These skills include hand-eye-body coordination, fine motor skills, and depth perception.
An eye exam can monitor potential eye conditions such as lazy eye (amblyopia) and crossed eyes (strabismus). Early treatment for these conditions can result in a higher success rate.
If you notice your child squinting, tilting their head, rubbing their eyes, or sitting up close to the TV, it could be the result of vision problems.
School-Aged Children: Ages 6–18
Between the ages of 6–18, your child should come in annually for an eye exam.
Healthy eyes and vision skills are needed for success academically, socially, and athletically.
Some common signs that indicate your child may be experiencing vision problems include short attention span, headaches, poor reading comprehension, and double vision. If you notice your child displaying any of these signs, don’t hesitate to contact us.
